Samira is making a clay pot, an essential tool used to store water and to prepare and cook food. Pots have been made traditionally for thousands of years throughout Africa. Women like Samira usually mold the pots, shaping them entirely by hand. Once the clay pots are formed and have dried, they are put n a pile, covered with wood, straw, or dried cow dung, and baked outside in an open fire. The pots are decorated and polished after firing.
